PopLurker Reviews: Michael Golden’s Micronauts Artist’s Edition by IDW and Marvel

Micronauts has been a Comic Book of legend since the beginning of time. It made Michael Golden a name of legend and Bill Mantlo of the top writes of the 80s with other hit books like ROM and the creator of Rocket Raccon. Back issues of this book and many others from the crazing licensing time of Marvel in the 80s are skyrocketing due to the face getting reprint rights can be very difficult. These issues in particular have never been reprinted or made into a Trade Paperback like so many others.

I do wonder if Michael Golden would be paid for this reprint. I had him sign a G.I. Joe Yearbook be IDW at Wonder-Con and he would not sign it without payment, as he was never paid for the reprint. I was more than happy to pay for signatures as its a tip to the artist how many times have I read a book and loved every minute. I have no problem giving the artist a couple of bucks for a signature heck yeah I will. Thank you for the years of memories reading and admiring your work.

This looks to be a very nice first for both IDW reprints and Micronaut fans. Remember these sell out so get your order in now.

The Classic Marvel Series of a Beloved Hasbro Brand Receives its Long-Awaited and Well-Deserved Artist’s Edition Treatment from IDW

In June, IDW Publishing (OTCQX: IDWM) will release the latest addition to its multiple Eisner Award-winning AE line with Michael Golden’s Micronauts Artist’s Edition.

Over 40 years ago, Marvel debuted the influential Micronauts comic book series, licensed at the time from the Mego Corporation (the Micronauts brand has since been acquired by Hasbro). The original series quickly amassed a hardcore fan following, one that survives decades later thanks to the mesmerizing narrative by Bill Mantlo and otherworldly illustration of Michael Golden and fellow artists.

Out of print for 35 years, six complete issues of Micronauts (#3, #7-9, and #11-12) will be collected in the 184-page Artist’s Edition, alongside a gallery section of more than a dozen covers, art rarities from the era, and additional pages that represent some of Michael Golden’s very best from the Micronauts series. This gorgeous hardcover measures 12” x 17”.

“A Micronauts Artist’s Edition has been a holy grail for many comic art fans since the AE program was launched,” says Editor Scott Dunbier. “We are delighted that we can bring this book to fruition.”

As with all Artist’s Editions, each gorgeous plate will be reproduced from scans of the original art and printed at the same size they were drawn, with all the distinctive creative nuances that make original art unique – a perfect representation of the work in its original form.

IDW will donate a portion of profits to the long-term medical care of Bill Mantlo, who has received treatment for cognitive and memory impairment since a 1992 hit-and-run accident.
