About PopLurker

Hello, and welcome to PopLurker!

PopLurker is a pop culture website that was established on January 2nd, 2018 by me, Internet writer/comedian/edgelord/garbage person Loryn Stone.

After continual rejection by other article based sites online, I decided that I would just make my own thing. I was confident enough in my voice, topics for articles, and platform that I knew I could gain a steady readership. And I did– in less than six months, traffic on PopLurker doubled or tripled that of other Nerd Culture websites that had been around significantly longer than PopLurker had. And thanks to loyal readership and wonderful people, we not only had a successful Patreon and Ko-Fi account, but we were receiving regular article submissions from writers out there who wanted their voices heard!

We have some really great, original comedy articles on PopLurker. I’m seriously so proud of everyone who wore the title of “Lurker” like a badge of honor and the fact that people want their art featured on my humble website just warms me in a way I can’t properly express. Here on PopLurker, you’ll find columns and articles such as:

  • Nostalgic Retrospectives
  • Mental Health and Pop Culture
  • Comedy Countdowns
  • Products/Multimedia Reviews
  • Pop Culture inspired Recipes
  • Comic Book news
  • Anime News
  • Toy News
  • Art News
  • And more!

But original content is difficult to curate, especially for a start up that doesn’t have budget to pay its writers. I needed to really examine PopLurker and our mission. That finally clicked once I started covering conventions as Press. While many other pop culture and nerd culture websites are Cosplay heavy, I realized my coverage on PopLurker centered around four things:

  • Exhibitors and Vendors (with a focus on toy collecting)
  • Independent Comic Books and Local Artists
  • Craft makers
  • Unique Programming and Panels
  • And of course– interviews!

And this is good! For me, these people are the breath and heart of conventions. Cosplaying is wonderful, but there are a multitude of other websites who can make it come to life far better than I can. For PopLurker, these other artists are the people I feature; these are the stories I want to tell. Coming up, I want to feature interviews and original articles spotlighting these people. Toy collectors, vendors, writers, musicians, and artists who tour around, making sure their passions are heard.

If you want your art featured on PopLurker, check the Artist Spotlight Submissions menu and see if you’d like us to review your product, feature your art or comic book, or interview your company! For writers, check out the Writers Submissions page. I thank you in advance for anything you wish to contribute.

Amazing things can happen when we work together.

Lurk you soon.
