The anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners managed to win the hearts of viewers and gamers from all over the world. No wonder then that – despite the known finale – there were hopes among Netflix subscribers for a continuation of this title.
Unfortunately, a CD Projekt RED representative decided to share a sad update. The Video Games Chronicle website made available a statement from Satoru Honma, CDP’s manager in Japan. According to his statement, the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime series was planned as a limited project. This means that we will not see any new episodes.
“I WOULD LIKE TO CREATE SOMETHING ELSE IN COLLABORATION WITH JAPANESE STUDIOS, BECAUSE THE RESPONSE FROM THE AUDIENCE HAS BEEN REALLY POSITIVE. HOWEVER, TO BE CLEAR, CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS IS A SOLO PROJECT. IT’S NOT LIKE WE’RE SECRETLY WORKING ON A SECOND SEASON. EVEN IF WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE SOME MORE ANIME, IT WON’T BE A SECOND SEASON OF THIS TITLE, BUT RATHER SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.” – DECLARED THE HONMA.

THIS SERIES IS A 10-EPISODE STORY ABOUT A STREET KID TRYING TO SURVIVE IN A FUTURE CITY OBSESSED WITH TECHNOLOGY AND BODY MODIFICATION. IN ORDER TO SURVIVE, HE PUTS EVERYTHING ON THE LINE AND DECIDES TO BECOME AN EDGERUNNER, I.E. ONE OF THE ILLEGAL MERCENARIES KNOWN AS CYBERPUNKS.
Fans of David’s crew’s adventures tend to agree that it makes no sense to continue the story. However, there have been suggestions among viewers to create a second season with completely new characters. Who knows, maybe we will see just such a project in the future, but with a different title. Don’t expect a second season of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
In the meantime, the Cyberpunk 2077 game continues to be hugely popular, thanks to the aforementioned anime series. The Spectre of Freedom add-on will also be released as early as next year, which, thanks to the blockbuster from Trigger studio, has gained even more hype among gamers.
